Dream Job

“Today is the day to start working toward your dream job.”

Chapter 2, goes hand in hand with Chapter 1, once you find your purpose you can embark on your dream job. As I write these blogs for my readers, I am also learning for myself. My dream job is to be a sports agent, who represents young athletes and prepare them for life after their career. I want to be more than just an agent, but their friend, sister, and liaison. This blog may be a little longer than usual but Chapter 2 was so full of so much good content, I HAD to write about it all.

“Take the small steps so you can walk in your path and get your dream job.” Typically we let the thought of someday get in the way of today. Lynn gives us the encouragement in Chapter 2 to create a list of things you can do daily to get to your dream job or goal. Here’s my list to attain my goal of being a sports agent:

1. Study for the various sports agent exams

2. Find a mentor

3. Learn and Understand Law

4. Practice Budgeting

5. BELIEVE in myself

What are yours? Write them and embrace them.

Let Me Shoot My Shot

Lynn then teaches us how to shoot our professional shot, she tells us to be specific in what we are asking for, but also how to be creative in our professional shot shooting. If you are willing to travel, spam their DM’s, and show up to events just to show you are serious, take notes on this chapter! Remember this “Today I will do what others WON'T! So tomorrow I can accomplish what others CAN'T!”

Experience

The next gem that Lynn drops to readers is using the network you have to get advice. I’ve been blessed to have my own network of individuals who live and breathe sports. My network is the group of coaches I had the opportunity to work with during my Senior year of college, my network are my uncles and cousins who played D1 college ball, and went on to play professionally. Due to who I have in my life, the things I have gotten to witness and experience many have not.

Moving forward, Lynn states that you have to be willing to do whatever it takes…that includes working for just EXPERIENCE and not pay. Ask yourself are you willing? I get it, I have bills too! I live on my own, and I am in school getting my Masters degree so working for FREE and full time is just not feasible for me, but I am also still willing to make time so I can create and cultivate my own experiences that my network did not create for me.

What’s Your Hail Mary?

The "Hail Mary" pass: That latest possible moment, remote chance endeavor for a losing football crew to fight against imminent loss and dominate the match, you can consider this to be the moment in your life that changes everything forever. What’s your Hail Mary?

I’ve had plenty of hail mary’s in my life. My biggest one was the death of my Nana. Losing my nana changed my life forever, I never imagined life without her, I figured she would be here for as long as I wanted her here and I wanted her with me FOREVER. It wasn’t easy, my faith in God wavered, I questioned life, essentially hail mary’s aren't easy,they make you question EVERYTHING. My Nana was big on stepping out on faith, because we should have faith the size of a mustard seed. My Nana passing was my Hail Mary, but her death taught me strength and tenacity and it has taught me how to keep going even when I want to give up.

Fail NOW not Later

Lynn decides to bring us back to reality, that we may see “overnight success” (thank Twitter and Instagram) and that's what we expect for ourselves. What we don't see? We don't see the 3am nights, the 6am mornings, the failed attempts. Mama always said “Everything that glitters isn't gold.” Lynn tells us the time to fail is NOW. If you start now it’ll be easier ten years from now. “No one’s journey is perfect.”

Throw your hail mary. Fail. Get experience. Shoot that shot. Do it all, while you’re still here, still breathing, and while you still can fail.
