Your brand is what people say about you when you are not in the room.

In 2020, on an episode of All American one of the main characters, says she’s a football guru which received the response of “Sounds like another Nicole Lynn in the making.” If that alone is not inspiration enough, I have no idea what to tell you. YOU ARE YOUR BRAND. Showcase it. Make your brand so POWERFUL that people have no way to separate you from it. This chapter has also taught me how to not “cover”. Covering is silencing who you are to fit in with someone who may have a more dominant personality or to fit into the culture of an organization.

One of the main focuses of my personal brand is my site. I want to be someone who is transparent so that those who come after me can say “Maya went through this, she made it through, I can do the same.” Personally, my site- my blog, is a beacon of laying out every emotion, and feeling I feel as I go through this experience of pursuing to become a sports agent and as a young woman pursuing a career in the sports industry.

To have the best version of your brand you have to define your pillars, my personal pillars are as follows:

  1. Black Women in Sports

  2. Faith and Purpose

  3. HBCU Advocacy

The ultimate goal of your brand should be for you to translate further into your purpose.

Chapter 5 up next!
