Remember ditching imposter syndrome? Well, girl let me tell you it will sneak up and try to attack WHENEVER it truly can. In January of 2023, I went to my first American Football Coaches Association Conference in Charlotte. This experience was an amazing one. Two days, my dream city, networking with individuals from every level of working in football. My mentor Coach Mashack told me I needed to make sure I was in attendance, what he didn't tell me was to be prepared for stares and a lot of questions. When I say this convention was filled with testosterone and it felt like being one of the few women, especially a BLACK woman in the room, that we were the prey and trying to figure out who was next to attack. This is when the imposter syndrome set in because why am I here? Do I belong? I just finished graduate school and I don't even have a job in my field yet......WHY AM I HERE??????? That feeling lasted all of 24 hrs, I had to boss myself up and remember who I am.
But all in all, I met some really good people and made great connections. Meeting other young people that look like you and have the same aspirations as you is an inspiring and beautiful experience. The sense of knowing the things you are feeling are validated and you aren't alone in these moments.
All in all I can't wait for next year, NASHVILLE baby!!!!!!!
